About this camp

This middle school expedition through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area balances two distinct modes of travel. Students spend the first half of the week navigating the Appalachian Trail on foot, carrying what they need on their backs and learning the rhythms of the trail. The second half is spent on the river, transitioning into canoes to paddle the winding waters of the Delaware. Evenings are dedicated to setting up camp, cooking over stoves, and reflecting on the group’s progress. The focus remains on self-reliance, technical outdoor skills, and the quiet persistence required for backcountry travel. It is a week of physical effort, shared responsibility, and the steady observation of the natural world.
